  1. I recently bought Ruhlman’s Twenty and love it for all of its good info and interesting recipes. Such a good resource for any of us who want to be better cooks!

  2. Hi John,
A favorite of mine is The Splendid Table by Lynn Rossetto Kaspar. It presents the cooking of the Emilio-Romagna province of Italy. Lovely, tasty dishes.
    Enjoy.

  3. It’s a cliche but Barefoot Contessa “How Easy Is That?” is a real inspiration for me! In fact, when we got back from vacation yesterday I pulled out that book and planned to cook about 70% of what we’ll eat this week from her recipes.
I’m also enjoying April Bloomfield’s books, “A Girl and Her Pig”. The ramp butter on toast with quail egg is delicious!

  4. Around My French Table by Dorie Greenspan is the most recent favorite cookbook in our house. Everything we’ve made from that book has been delicious.
Our standby for the times when we know what we want to make, but need a recipe, is the America’s Test Kitchen Family Cookbook.

  5. This is slightly embarrassing but I LOVE a Junior League cookbook I won in a raffle back in 1994. It’s chock full of useful, fun, delicious recipes.

  6. For a straightforward comprehensive collection of informative and malleable recipes, Bittman’s “How to Cook Everything” is very difficult to beat.

  7. My New Orleans and My Family Table both by John Besh so I can make my own creole/cajun food way up here in New Hampshire.
Mexican Everyday by Rick Bayless is my go to summer cookbook.
America’s Test Kitchen Healthy Family Cookbook is great for filling a week’s meal plan around some more complex recipes from other sources.

  8. My husband and I having been getting a ton of mileage from Gwyneth Paltrow’s cookbook, “My Father’s Daughter.” It really fits the way we eat and the way we cook for our family.
